You will all know where the powers came from if you have read the plot, but what they actually are is confusing. Some horses and wolves have more powers than others, and some are devoid entirely. So basically I’ve made this little guide to help you understand the powers
Note: As a wolf or horse gets older their powers develop, up until a point. While the horse or wolf is going through adolescence their powers will be less in their controle – the powers are linked to emotion
The Powers from the Realm of Death
Most who ended up with a small amount of the Realm’s power are loyal to the Realm, though that is not a rule. However, if someone with the Realm’s power waltzed into the Heart’s Lands and started flaunting their powers, they would not get a good reception, if you catch my drift. Their powers, like those of the Realm, are destructive. What an individual can do varies on how strong their powers are, but here are a few basic guidelines, to be taken with a pinch of salt.
What CANNOT be done:
- Life cannot be given/they can’t create life of ANY SORT (by means of powers – the normal way is just fine).
- They can’t kill someone just by snapping their fingers, or so to speak. I.e., wolves must still hunt their pray.
- Teleportation. Random, but they can’t just disappear from one place and reappear in another.
What CAN be done:
- They have some measure of control over fire and rock – the destructive and not living things. Only someone with seriously advanced powers can create these things from nothing. Most of the time it takes a spark to make a fire.
- Destroy plant life. How much they can destroy the plant is limited by their own ability and the prowess of the plant. E.g., a horse or wolf with enough power to kill a small sapling may only have enough power to break a small branch on anancient oak.
The Powers from the Heart of the Wild
Like those who were influenced by the Realm joined the Realm, those who have the powers of the Heart follow the Heart. Their powers are constructive. You could say that they are the opposite to the powers of the Thall.
What CANNOT be done:
- Life cannot be taken away/destroyed. Killing by hoof, tooth and claw is OK, because that doesn’t involve the powers.
- They can’t just create animal life by wishing it so. The usual way is fine, but not using powers.
- Teleportation. Random, but they can’t just disappear from one place and reappear in another.
What CAN be done:
- They have some measure of control earth and plants and occasionally, water. They can make plants grow in ways they want, and speed up how fast they grow etc.
- Create plant life, but to what extent is governed by their own ability (and the staff).
- Limited healing. Very limited.
The Gods and Goddesses, though they have limited powers themselves, CANNOT give out powers. The only way they can get these powers into their armies is to convince those gifted with powers to join them. . Please please please do not let this put you off playing someone who follows them. It would be interesting to play a Foirfe, wouldn’t it?
Inside those rough boundaries you can go as wild as you want... you can be imaginative. If you're not sure if you character can do something, then just ask.
